Chronic Pain Support Group

Chronic Pain Support Group (CPSG) was established in 2009, the first formal self-help group in Suffolk for people affected by chronic pain.

CPSG is run for patients with chronic pain and run solely by patients with chronic pain.  Our main objectives are to bring people together who are suffering this debilitating condition within a 'safe' environment, to be able to share concerns and ideas, build friendships and obtain up-to-date information about handling their pain.

Our group is designed to encompass all needs for all ranges. We have a very relaxed attitued - it's all about feeling comfortable with others and sharing time together.  We understand the difficulties of living in pain and the lack of support once formal treatment has finished. Patients gain a considerable amount from being able to meet people in similar circumstances.

We are a friendly group offering support and education to our members in many pain related areas which help them to feel less isolated and more able to cope with their condition(s).  With the aim of helping patients to help themselves and learn hwo to lead an active life in spite of their pain.

As a group we offer:-

  • 12 meetings a year with guest speakers
  • Quarterly newsletter/on-line community
  • Monthly coffee mornings & crafting group
  • Awareness in the commuity & signposting

Patients have commented on the relief felt knowing that they are not alone, someone is always there to offer support and social interaction is invaluable.

The values the group offers are very important and equally vital to patients in their day-to-day lives.

The group meets in the Smal Hall at Southgate Community Centre, one Thursday a month, 2pm to 4pm.

Meetings include a speaker from a chosen profession who gives a short presentation, allowing for questions, followed by refreshments and a chance to chat.  As we are a self-financing community group and rely heavily on our own fundraising, we run a raffle and table-top sale.  Carers and partners are welcome too.

Since we started we have welcomed a number of very interesting speakers from a wide range of disciplines and have many lined up for the future.  We are always looking for health care professionals or other professionals who help those in pain, to join us as a speaker. Please contact us if you are interested.  We also welcome non-pain related speakers.

If members cannot make a meeting we are happy to keep them up to date via our quarterly newsletter, which can be posted or emailed.
