About the East of England Asbestos Patient Support Group – EEA-PSG
The East of England Asbestos Patient Support Group is a charity dedicated to helping people suffering from asbestos-related diseases and their families who live in the East of England. The charity was founded by Brian Wallis in March 2021 and is Chaired by Phoebe Osborne.
Prior to this Brian Wallis has been an active Mesothelioma UK Ambassador 2013 -2023 since losing his wife Rosemary in 2013 to asbestosis. He was also the founder of Anglia Asbestos Disease Support Group. During this time Brian and his team of volunteers strived to improve the support available for those newly diagnosed with mesothelioma and other asbestos diseases and helped to raise funds for a Mesothelioma UK specialist nurse to work in Suffolk and Norfolk.
Brian recalls first-hand there were very few patient support groups in these parts of the region only a short time ago and since then, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of thriving patient support groups which have run alongside those existing groups located across the UK, many of which are linked to the NHS and other charities.
Due to geographic location of the East of England, it is no small feat to bring together patients from as far afield as Coastal Norfolk to Rural Suffolk and EEA-PSG understands how vitally important it is to support all patients and their families affected, no matter where in the region they are based. We have regular attendees from Cambridgeshire and Essex and those based in Suffolk and Norfolk.
Since its incorporation, the charity makes regular donations to NHS hospitals across the East of England for equipment to benefit the respiratory and oncology teams and we welcome patients, carers and family members who benefit from attending our monthly meetings, summer outing and Christmas lunch.
Open to beginners, knitters with some experience, or knitting experts. Feel free to bring along your own wool, needles and anything you’re currently working on.
Please contact the office (01284 703705 or office@southgatecommunity.org.uk) for the date of their next meeting.
